And I, the wedding planner, will write again about my own feelings: once again, who knows how many times, I had to experience and feel again, with a shudder, how much love and warmth lives in the heart of the simple Corfu peasant.

We were setting up the decorations at our ceremony site, making the bliss gate, when the uncle sitting in the neighbour’s plot – to whom I had already introduced myself and told him what we were up to – sent his wife over with a bouquet of dark purple bougainvillea to use for the decorations. Dear little ones! The elderly gentleman can only walk with a walker, and even that is very difficult – but when the young couple went up to him to toast with champagne, he got to his feet and greeted the young people. He wished Hungary and Greece a long and fruitful life with many children and prosperity, so that we may all be happy.

I’m very lucky to live in Corfu – if I forget that for a moment, experiences like this can reignite the flame.
